Quick cure for sunburn
Global warming some argue is natural phenomenon – whatever the reality you need to protect your skin from over exposure and if you haven’t had sunscreen on chances are you look like a prime lobster all pink and orangey all over. Coping with #sunburn however, is not a laughing matter.
When your skin feels as if its trying to take you to a black site of its own its time to take action to soothe the pain – we have a few home remedies that can help you lessen and help you live with the pain until your body can repair the damage naturally.
- Taking a short bath 10 to 15 minutes in baking soda can help relieve sunburn and do not towel off but let your body “air dry”
- Aloe vera – is an excellent cream to apply on that nasty sunburn to help ease the pain – use at least five to six times a day. It is available in a local store as a juice or gel. You may need to use it for several days to get the full benefit and relief from pain and help skin recover its natural state
- Drinking a lot of water can help your body repair the damage done by sunburn and chances are that you are also dehydrated and the top layer of skin is seriously dry requiring lots of water. If you feel a severe headache and sudden heat in your chest then chances are that you could also be suffering from sunstroke in which case please drink an isotonic drink and consult a doctor
- Taking a bath in cool water can help quickly ease the pain of the sunburn – for immediate relief always a good remedy.
- Apply moisturiser liberally can help the skin repair the damage caused by sunburn- chances are the cells on your skin are damaged and leaking too much fluid that is needed by the body. Moisturiser helps keep the fluid locked into the skin.
- Mashed potatoes – yes potatoes are an excellent pain reliever. Slice the potatoes into pieces then blend it or smash it – add water if the potatoes are too dry. Use gauze soaked potatoes if you prefer a neat solution. You may need to apply the remedy three times a day for several days
- Try a topical anaesthetic can help ease the pain of more severe sunburn. Consult your doctor if you have a history of skin allergies or you could use an over the counter cream of spray if you do not have any known allergies. Do not spray the anaesthetic directly to the face.
- There are many other OTC pain relievers that may also help – pills or tablets
- Apply a cool towel over the sunburn can help dull the pain and constrict blood vessels closest to the surface help ease the pain as the nerve endings are dulled by the coolness.
